Associate Professor Simon Forrest and colleague Barry Winmar from Curtin University (CU) Aboriginal Studies Unit, have been engaged to assist with reviewing and strengthening the IYLP curriculum and program model, specifically focusing on developing the Indigenous leadership content. Simon and Barry will support the 2011 pre-trek training scheduled from 29th April to 1 May in Melbourne and the Indigenous Cultural Trek will then take place in August in the Kimberleys at Jarlmandangah Community, situated east of Broome in WA.

Leading telecommunications provider Huawei commenced their support of the IYLP in January 2010, supporting 5 of the young supporters in the 2010 program trek of the Kokoda Trail. Huawei have stayed closely involved with the participants and followed their journey throughout the project.
In December 2010 representatives from the New South Wales team, Rhett Burraston, Terence Murphy and Steve Widders attended the Huawei Christmas function and delivered to guests a heart -felt account of their experiences over the past 12 months.
